Prairie Village’s State of the Arts Gala has turned into quite a jewel.
The annual juried arts show celebration attracted so many patrons this past Friday that organizers ran out of food — “and ALMOST out of wine,” according to committee member Randy Kronblad. “Good problem to have.”
A perfect evening and growing interest in the arts put parking at a premium, but a packed house didn’t deter from a good time.
“It is one of the best events Prairie Village puts on,” said Prairie Village councilor Laura Wassmer, recapping the night at Monday’s city council meeting. “It is a swanky evening right here in our little city. It was packed — elbow to elbow. Everyone was raving about it.”
The culmination of the evening comes with the announcement of the winners of the prizes. This year’s winners were:
Best of Show R.G.Endres Memorial Award of $1,000: “Lush Fields” by Donna Yeager
Merit Award of $750: “American Icons” by Jane Pronko
Merit Award of $750: “Tanguy Forest by Ralph Telken
Prairie Village Arts Council Award of $500: “Patchwork” by B.H. Armstrong
Honorable Mention Awards of $100: “Trees and Grass” by Donna Corbin; “A Passing Storm” by Jim Walker; “Cottonwood Yellow” by Gary Walden; “Chip” by Lisa Cowan; and “San Diego Stretch” by Ron Hoyle.
