Mission Hills renews police contract with Prairie Village

The Mission Hills city council has approved a renewal agreement with the city of Prairie Village for police services. Prairie Village has provided police protection to Mission Hills for a number of years.

The contract between the cities has Mission Hills paying Prairie Village a total of $1,278,351 for patrols conducted by four squad cars, as well as a number of other services. The deal works out to $106,529 a month.

Some of the Mission Hills council members questioned why the price of the contract had risen by 8.5 percent since the contact was last renewed in 2009. The Prairie Village police department cited equipment improvements, namely new laptops for the patrol cars and the replacement of an aging radio system, as the drivers for the increase.
