Using Historic Maps for Genealogy
The next general meeting of the Johnson County Genealogical Society will be May 26, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at the Johnson County Central Resource Library, at 9875 W 87th St., Overland Park, KS 66212. Pam Miller will be our presenter, and the topic will be "Using Historic Maps for Genealogy".
The opportunity to own land was often a key motivator to our ancestors who immigrated to America. Maps are a valuable resource for genealogical research, as many include the names of our ancestors. Learn about the variety of maps that show land ownership, and understand why it is important to look beyond the names to the community that surrounded them.
