Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge
Join local Sierra Club members to learn about conservation programs on our local public lands.
Patrick Martin, Manager of the Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge, will discuss this little known natural area about 50 miles south of Kansas City. The refuge, established to conserve bottomland hardwood forests, protects waterfowl and songbirds. It also provides monarch butterfly and pollinator habitat.
Close-by natural areas and parks offer a welcome escape from the COVID-19 pandemic and a direct connection to nature. They also play a critical role in combating the climate and extinction crises.
