The Village Shops in Prairie Village and the Shawnee Mission Cancer Center will be adorned in pink lights for the month of October in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Join us in Prairie Village as we flip the switch and bring light to the importance of mammograms in early detection of breast cancer. The event is from 7-8 p.m. with a short program at 7:15 and a 7:30 lighting.
Event includes family entertainment and door prizes!
Donations will be accepted for Camp Bluebird, Shawnee Mission Health’s camp dedicated to adults diagnosed with cancer.
Breast Health Services
Early detection and awareness saves lives. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and 200,000 men and women are diagnosed each year. If the disease is caught early, the five-year survival rate is 99 percent.
Shawnee Mission Health is home to Kansas City’s first accredited Breast Center, dedicated to the full spectrum of breast care from screening through diagnosis and survivorship. The Breast Center, which offers 3D mammography, serves in partnership with the Shawnee Mission Cancer Center to provide complete oncology services, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, infusion therapies and other on-site integrative treatments and cancer support services. In addition, the Center also offers a PET/CT scanner that provides advanced imaging and treatment planning. Patients receive the full continuum of care – from diagnosis, through inpatient and outpatient services and even prosthetics and wigs, support groups, classes and spiritual renewal – all on one campus.
Schedule a mammogram at one of Shawnee Mission Health’s three Johnson County locations online or by calling 913-676-2505. Walk-ins and evening appointments are available, and a doctor’s order is not required for screening mammograms.
