Sierra Club forum: Johnson County Sustainability Program
February 12 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Johnson County Government created its first sustainability committee in 2004, focused on construction of more energy efficient County buildings. An effort to reduce greenhouse gases and to protect air quality followed, including completion of a greenhouse gas inventory and building a fleet of alternative fuel and compressed natural gas vehicles. Strides have been made towards solid waste reduction goals. The public transit system has been expanded, including creation recently of a new ride-hailing microtransit program (there’s an app for that!). https://www.jocogov.org/environment
As the effects of climate change are being felt regionally, what has been accomplished by the Sustainability Program over the past 15 years to help ensure our quality of life in Johnson County? What new priorities have the Board of County Commissioners and the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment identified to build resilience? Have new goals been established to help focus the work of the new Sustainability Program Manager? What support can the Sierra Club offer to help meet those goals?
Join us to learn where the Johnson County Sustainability Program is headed now under the direction of Brian Alferman, its third manager.
