31 SM East students tapped for All-State Music Groups, highest honor for high school musicians

Jay Senter - January 16, 2014 6:00 am
SM East’s Abby Cramer was one of two students selected for the All-State choir group.

You can consider the release of this year’s Kansas Music Educators Association All State Music Groups a validation of the high regard northeast Johnson Countians have for SM East’s music programs.

A total 31 students were named to the groups this year, with Lancers selected to represent their school in four categories: choir, jazz band, band and orchestra. Last year, SM East sent 26 students to the all-state groups. SM East’s music teachers are Kim Harrison (Band), Jon Lane (Orchestra) and Ken Foley (Choir).

Selection to the All State Music Groups is the highest honor high school musicians in Kansas can receive. The invited students will perform with their talented peers from across the state at the State Convention Mar. 1.
