Johnson County approves mask order for schools pre-K through 6th grade

The Johnson County Commission on Thursday approved a public health order requiring masks be worn by everyone inside school buildings that enroll children up to and including 6th grade. The order applies to both public and private schools and goes into effect Monday, Aug. 9, days before some Johnson County students return to the classroom. After an emotional outpouring of testimony from the public on Thursday, the Johnson County Commission approved a new order that requires students, staff and visitors to wear masks inside elementary schools.

The order applies to both public and private schools and covers all facilities that enroll students up to and including sixth grade.
