Overland Park police on Thursday identified the victim of last night’s shooting homicide off 87th Street as Micah Babick, 30, of Prairie Village.

In media briefings on the scene of the investigation Wednesday, police had initially indicated the victim’s age was 19.

Babick was found dead of a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the McDonald’s restaurant adjacent to the Johnson County Central Resource Library on 87th Street at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday. Police said Babick’s brother was at the scene when the shooting took place and witnessed the homicide. Additional family members arrived at the scene as police conducted the investigation.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s who has short dreadlocks. He was wearing a white tee shirt and black pants at the time of the shooting. The suspect left the scene in a red sedan.

In March, Babick wrote on his Facebook page that he had decided to pursue a career in real estate.

“ive needed this break and am super excited to start this new chapter in life,” he wrote after getting a call back from a ReeceNichols office. “im gonna make the best out of it.”
