Johnson County taking cloth mask donations to help with shortage during coronavirus pandemic

Johnson County will be collecting cloth mask donations at the Johnson County Administration building, 111 Cherry Street, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

If you’ve got a knack for sewing and you’re wondering how to help the community respond to COVID-19, Johnson County has a task for you.

Nationwide, healthcare professionals have been dealing with a shortage of medical equipment — including a shortage of protective masks. Johnson County on Monday announced it would be taking cloth mask donations in an effort to help fill the shortage gap and “build the personal protective equipment supply” for area healthcare professionals.

“COVID-19 is continuing to put a strain on the healthcare system,” Deputy Director of Johnson County Emergency Management Dan Robeson said in a  release. “We have requested additional masks, but supply is short everywhere, and we must ensure health workers are safe as they serve those who are ill.”

Some businesses are providing cloth mask supplies for free. The donations will be taken at the Johnson County Administration building, 111 Cherry Street. Donations should be dropped off in room 201, on the lower level, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call (913) 715-1041.
