Best Bets for the Weekend: Celebrate suffragettes, pet brains, free magic

We’ve been fortunate to have so many beautiful weekends lately, and this coming one should follow suit. We’re planning on reacquainting ourselves with our neighbors, having some playdates and hopefully checking out one of these fun events:

  • This Sunday Shawnee Town 1929 Museum is partnering with Johnson County’s League of Women Voters and the Girl Scouts of NE Kansas and NW Missouri to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote. Girl Scouts of all ages, family members, troop leaders and assistants, and League of Women Voters are invited to attend Shawnee Town’s first official Votes for Women event of the year – catered tea with a unique Girl Scout “twist.”
  • People and animals have feelings in common. This Saturday learn more at Empawthy an interactive presentation at Gardner Library, presented by Wayside Waifs. helps you appreciate similarities and differences in pet and human brains, emotions and social chemistry. You’ll leave the session with a greater understanding of empathy that will help you to better connect with animals and each other.
  • Our 9-year-old is at that fun stage where she’s really into magic. I know she would love US Toy’s free show on Saturday where Willy the Wizard and Gel E Bean will explore the relationship between science and magic.
