Spring semester is officially starting at Johnson County Community College and this year, as always, we will strive to give every student the resources and education they need to achieve success.
Campus Construction Update
One of our priorities is to ensure students have access to top-of-the-line facilities that pave the way for educational success. The new Campus Front Door is officially open and reinforces the Student Center as the first stop for all students and visitors. The enhanced front door project also called for the creation of JCCC’s first outdoor sports complex. Our baseball, soccer and softball fields are now in a centralized location where spectators can soon take advantage of outdoor restroom facilities and a fully stocked concession stand once construction is complete.
Renovations are underway on the first floor of Billington Library, which will house all five of the College’s Resource Centers (Academic Achievement, Language, Math, Science and Writing) in one convenient location. This space will provide students a one-stop-shop for all academic support services.
Looking ahead, a number of our Science labs will be reconfigured to ensure they facilitate a modern and upgraded learning environment. That includes updating already-existing classrooms into Active Learning Classrooms, or more student-centered, technology-rich environments.
Get Informed and Get Involved
New Student Orientations are available to all students Monday through Friday throughout the year. Online orientations are available as well for those who can’t make it in person. These sessions provide helpful information about:
- Placement exams
- Navigating your MYJCCC account
- Course scheduling
- Tuition payments
- Online, accelerated, hybrid and self-paced class options
With over 80 different student Clubs and Organizations, we offer something to satisfy every interest. Joining a club or organization is a great way to get involved and make the most of the on-campus experience. Students can choose from options including the Student Sustainability Committee, Improv Club, Quiz Bowl and more!
Students are also encouraged to check out the JCCC Student Lounge, located in COM 322. This space provides a true break from the books and is decked out with TVs, the latest video game systems, ping-pong and foosball tables, board games and more. Parties, tournaments and student contests are frequently hosted in the Student Lounge.
Resources for Student Success
As our Cavaliers work toward their educational goals, we provide a variety of student resources to enhance their college experience. Free tutoring is available for a variety of subjects in all of the College’s Resource Centers. In addition, scheduled, semester-long tutoring is offered in many subjects through the Academic Achievement Center.
When it comes to financial assistance, JCCC awards millions of dollars in scholarships every year to qualified students. The Financial Aid Office accepts applications and awards funds throughout the year, but students are encouraged to apply by the April 1 priority deadline. One application is all it takes for students to become eligible for hundreds of scholarships!
