P1 Group Inc., a single source facilities solutions provider in Lenexa, has just celebrated 100 years serving the Kansas City area.
P1 Group celebrated its 100th anniversary last month at its headquarters, 13605 W 96th Terrace. The city of Lenexa also honored the company by proclaiming Sept. 18 as P1 Group Inc. 100-Year Anniversary Celebration Day.
“Turning 100 years old is truly a milestone for P1 Group, and every associate, customer, vendor and strategic partner has played a critical role in our success to date,” said Smitty Belcher, chief executive officer. “I thank each of them from the bottom of my heart.”
P1 Group is a consolidation a few companies. The consolidation took place in 2007 and brought AD Jacobson (founded in 1919 in Kansas City), Huxtable and Associates (founded in 1927 in Lawrence), U.S. Electrical (founded in 1955 in Kansas City) and Huxtable LT (founded in 1985 in Topeka) together as one entity.
P1 Group doesn’t construct the exterior of buildings; rather, its focus has always been on building and maintaining a building’s interior: Plumbing, mechanical, electrical, architectural metalwork, millwright construction, fabrication, and virtual design and construction, to name a few.
“I think a lot of people don’t always think of the people that have to maintain the inside of a building so that it can be usable, whether it’s education, healthcare, government, themed entertainment,” said Victoria Hoffman, marketing communications manager of P1 Group. “It just saves a lot of time and money and waste on a job site when things can all be put together and just delivered to a job site. The crux is that we have it all under one roof.”
Some of P1 Group’s clients are themed entertainment businesses in Las Vegas and even Disney. Locally, P1 Group serves the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, which requires intricate attention to detail on things like air quality for musicians and other factors that go into quality maintenance.
“We’ve got a lot going on,” Hoffman added.
In looking forward to the next century, Belcher noted that success “has never been in the rearview mirror” for him.
“It’s more important to focus on what you’re going to do in the future,” Belcher said. “Your associates want to know, your customers want to know, and change is inevitable. Our goal for the next 100 years is to always provide something different, and better, than anyone else. We look forward to what’s next for P1 Group and all of those who join us on the journey.”
