Nothing suspicious found after police evacuate Leawood AMC Theaters following bomb threat. Theater patrons evacuated the Leawood Town Center AMC Theaters following a bomb threat Saturday evening. Leawood police responded to the threat at about 9:45 p.m. at the theaters located at 11701 Nall Avenue and, working with AMC management, decided to evacuate the theaters to ensure everyone’s safety. By 10:45 p.m., nothing suspicious had been found. Lenexa native Kelly McKee, a senior at the University of Virginia competing in track and field, jumped 13.51m (44-4) on her opening jump in the triple jump at the ACC Championships on Saturday. She finished third in the event, earning her sixth All-ACC honor in the event and the seventh overall honor of her career. The ACC Championships serves as the men’s and women’s matchup between Virginia and Virginia Tech in the Commonwealth Clash, part of a statewide rivalry between the two schools.
Kansas City man gets 70 years for robbery spree in which Shawnee suspect was killed by police. After a slew of armed robberies and a fatal clash with law enforcement in which Jermon Seals, a suspect from Shawnee, was killed by police, a Kansas City man was found guilty for his part in the crimes two years ago. Shannon Thomas, 28, of Kansas City will spend at least 70 years in prison after a federal trial jury last week convicted him of his part in a three-month armed robbery spree that ended with Seals fatally shot by law enforcement officers outside a Blue Springs business. Thomas was found guilty of participating in 10 armed robberies, 10 counts of brandishing a gun during a violent crime and one count of felony possession.
