Merriam Park Elementary students parade into school for first day back to class

School is back in session today for the Shawnee Mission School District. Kids at Merriam Park Elementary celebrated their first day back — or, for some pre-K students and kindergarteners, their first day ever — with a parade onto school grounds Friday morning.

Following a police escort, a few students led the way with a banner welcoming everyone back to school. The fresh morning air filled with raucous laughter and yells as young friends from prekindergarten to sixth grade skipped along the sidewalk into the main entrance of Merriam Park Elementary.
