Overland Park home that was being renovated is a total loss after fire

An unoccupied home in the 7700 block of Floyd in Overland Park has been declared a total loss after catching fire early Tuesday morning.

Crews from the Overland Park Fire Department and Consolidated Fire District No. 2 responded to reports of the structure on fire around 1:20 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, they found the home already fully engulfed.

Firefighters spent 20 minutes using defensive techniques to quell the blaze, and then spent an additional hour addressing hot spots.

Neighbors told fire investigators the home has been vacant while it was undergoing renovation. No one was injured in the incident.

Fire investigators have not yet determined the cause of the blaze.
