A Shawnee family has opened its second Tropical Smoothie Cafe location in the Shawnee Mission area — and they’ve got plans to open a third in just a few months.
Scott and Missy Andersen celebrated the first day of business for their new restaurant at 9424 Mission Road in Prairie Village on Saturday. The Andersens took over the space vacated by Peachwave, which closed last October.
The family opened their first location — and the first Tropical Smoothie Cafe franchise in Johnson County — in Lenexa at Greystone South Plaza at 12850 W 87th St. Parkway in December 2015.
Scott first encountered the brand during a business trip to Virginia. When he introduced the rest of the family to the restaurant during a vacation to Florida, Missy proposed the idea of franchising the restaurant back home.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe offers a selection of made-to-order fruit smoothies as well as a menu of sandwiches, wraps, flatbreads and bowls.
“The fun for Missy and me is watching people experience Tropical Smoothie Cafe for the first time, taking in the tropical environment, the friendly staff, and, of course, enjoying the tropical flavors,” Scott said.
The couple have also selected a site for their third restaurant. They’re hoping to be able to open at 95th and Antioch in Overland Park in October.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
