The Fine Arts and Design programs at Johnson County Community College will exceed your expectations. We offer outstanding faculty who practice their art, ample student resources and even have a new, state-of-the-art facility coming to life on our campus.
Nestled near the Carlsen Center, Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art and the Wylie Hospitality and Culinary Academy, the 37,000 square foot Fine Arts & Design Studios building will anchor our Arts neighborhood. Housing multiple creative workspaces designed and constructed with student functionality and flexibility top-of-mind, the facility will promote synergy and collaboration between the disciplines.
“Up until now, all of the different arts and design areas have been in their own silos on campus,” said Mark Cowardin, Fine Arts, Photography and Film Chair. “In our new building, we hope to create an environment where we can connect students and they can create more collaboratively.”
The Studios building is set to open in January 2019, and will house Fine Arts, Photography, and Film & Media Studies, as well as the Graphic Design career program.
Fine Arts, Photography and Film
Students looking for college level art classes are encouraged to explore our Fine Arts offerings, including:
- Digital imaging
- Metal and Silversmithing
- Film & Media Studies
The courses in these programs are designed to transfer. We have articulation agreements in place with more than 25 regional colleges and universities.
“A degree in the Fine Arts can lead to a career in the future,” said Jim Lane, Dean of Arts & Design, Humanities & Social Sciences at JCCC. “The creative and critical thinking skills students cultivate through these classes will allow them to make informed, educated and outstanding decisions in whatever career they pursue.”
The Graphic Design career program prepares students with a creative calling for in-demand jobs at advertising and marketing agencies, publishing houses, online retailers or nearly any business that blends art and communication.
Our faculty members employ a professional, studio-style learning experience and offer individualized support, ensuring students are workforce ready. And with a large percentage of our graduates receiving job offers, the market outlook is strong.
Campus Is Our Canvas
