Briefly noted: Vice president campaigns for Yoder on trip to KC; Roeland Park K-9 unit certified

Pence campaigns for Yoder during KC trip. Vice president Mike Pence was the featured guest at a $1,000 a plate fundraiser for Rep. Kevin Yoder’s reelection campaign yesterday. Organizers did not publicize the location of the closed door event, but law enforcement officers from several local agencies, including the Prairie Village and Mission Hills Police Department, had access to Carriage Club on State Line Road blocked off Wednesday afternoon. Attendees could pay $5,400 for the opportunity to have their photo taken with Pence, according to the Kansas City Star’s Bryan Lowry. Yoder was in D.C. yesterday attending committee meetings.

Roeland Park’s K-9 unit gets certification. Roeland Park’s new police dog Rango has received full certification as a dual purpose K-9 unit. Rango and his handler Sgt. Cory Honas completed a multi-week training program. They’re expected to go into full active duty next week. The Roeland Park police requested the ability to bring on a K-9 unit around the start of the year. Rango is trained in building searches, suspect tracking, officer protection and detecting marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.
