Latrina Karice Newsome gets 96 months in prison for incident at Oak Park Mall. A Mississippi woman who deployed pepper spray against Overland Park police officers after they confronted her about suspected theft of merchandise will spend 96 months in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections. Latrina Katrice Newsome was convicted on counts of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer and battery of a law enforcement officer for the September 2017 incident. Newsome had been seen stealing items from Victoria’s Secret. When police confronted her about the thefts, she became combative, and used pepper spray on the officers. As they attempted to subdue Newsome and a man she was with, the officers sustained injuries including a broken foot, a broken finger and a knee contusion.

Mission-based Acendas Travel expands with acquisition of South Dakota agency. A travel agency co-headquartered in Mission and Minneapolis is gaining a new office in South Dakota. Acendas Travel has acquired Travel Partners, a vacation travel agency based in Sioux Falls. Since 2010, the company has also acquired Vanguard Travel in Minneapolis as well as Gateway Express Travel, Interlachen Travel and most recently Edina Travel. Brent Blake, president of Acendas Travel, said the company is “excited to have the Travel Partners team come under the Acendas Travel umbrella.” “We have a focus on growth, but only if it is a good fit,” Blake said. “Travel Partners is not only a good fit; it is a great fit.”
