In new video, Lenexa recaps the 20-year history of new City Center

The Lenexa City Center development that includes a new city hall, recreation center, public market and much more didn’t happen overnight.

In fact, city leaders first envisioned the development in a strategic planned capped off in 1997, fully 20 years before last summer’s ribbon cutting.

The most recent “Living History” video produced by the city, released this week, walks through the process that made City Center possible:

Living Lenexa History – City Center

In our final Living Lenexa History video, we bring all of our past together and look toward the future. These history videos were created based on the history marker located near the fountain on our civic campus. That history marker includes the historical people, places and things that made Lenexa what it is today.

The civic campus is located in Lenexa City Center, which encompasses all four corners of 87th & Renner. This area was envisioned by residents in our first strategic planning process, called Vision 2020. At that time, Lenexa's residents wanted the city to build a new neighborhood that featured places to live, work, shop and play, and we are fulfilling that vision by ensuring City Center becomes the premier destination in Lenexa.
