Fans of loose ground-beef-and-cabbage sandwiches, I’m going to need for you to sit down…

Runza sent a message to patrons this morning noting that Sunday was its last day of operation at its Johnson Drive location in Mission.

“We appreciate your support over the last seven years, and hope to serve you again in Lawrence or at one of our other locations,” read the message.

The cult-favorite restaurant chain was launched in Lincoln, Neb., in 1964, and has spread across the state through the decades. Runza also has a handful of locations in northern Kansas. It’s Mission and Lawrence locations were the only restaurants in eastern Kansas and the greater Kansas City area. Outside of Nebraska and Kansas, its only other locations are in Colorado.
