From 2009-2012, theatre patrons from across the world watched Overland Park native and SM West graduate Valerie Fagan fulfill her childhood dream by performing on Broadway in The Addams Family.
Today, Kansas City theatre fans have the chance to see her right here in town.
Fagan is starring in Starlight Theatre’s Starlight Indoor production of Forbidden Broadway, a roast of musicals that debuts today at the Cohen Community Stage House.
After graduating from UMKC, Fagan moved to New York. There, she spent nearly a quarter century working in theatre, including her four-year stint in The Addams Family, which saw her perform across stars like Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth.
She moved back to the Kansas City area after The Addams Family run, using it as a home base from which she travels to perform on national theatre circuits. But she’s also active in the Kansas City theatre scene.
Fagan now lives in Lenexa, not far from her childhood home.
“While watching The Wizard of Oz last month, I had an epiphany: ‘Wow Val, you’re actually living Dorothy’s last scene in the movie!'” she said. “After her adventures in Oz, she’s back in Kansas and realizes, “There’s no place like home!'”
