Prairie Village and Leawood came in at first and second, with the council noting their exceptionally low violent crime rates.

“Prairie Village’s low number of 11 violent crimes gives it an average of only 0.5 violent crimes per 1,000, and its rate of 10.11 property crimes per 1,000 is equally impressive,” reads the council’s write up. “Leawood (#2), which, like Prairie Village, is located in Johnson County, earned noteworthy rates of 0.85 violent crimes and 11.27 property crimes per 1,000.”

Overland Park, Lenexa and Shawnee also made the top ten list, as did fellow Johnson County municipality Olathe.

The group uses data from the most recent available FBI Uniform Crime Report to measure crime rates based on population. The analysis does not include cities with populations of less than 10,000 (which is several in northeast Johnson County…)
