Former Leawood state Sen. Jeff Colyer stepping into governor’s office as Brownback is finally confirmed to ambassadorship. The protracted limbo inside the highest ranks of Kansas government is over at last, as Vice President Mike Pence broke a tie in the Senate to confirm Sam Brownback as the Trump administration’s ambassador for religious freedom. That means Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer, a former state representative and senator for parts of southern Johnson County and a candidate for governor in this year’s election, will move into the state’s top office.

Culinary Center of Kansas City brings in new “King of Culinary Curriculum.” The Culinary Center of Kansas City, located in downtown Overland Park, has announced the hiring of Stephen Velie as the new “King of Culinary Curriculum.” Velie brings a variety of experience to the role, including three decades as a monk. He will be in charge of all the center’s classes for the public.
