The best place to live in all of Kansas is right here in the Shawnee Mission area, according to a new list from Money magazine.
Money’s new Best Places to Live in the U.S. list says Lenexa is the top spot to set up in Kansas. Here’s the magazine’s take on the city:
Just 15 miles from Kansas City, Lenexa is working hard to give locals more to enjoy within its own borders. The Lenexa Public Market, an 11,000-square-foot food hall, opened last year on the first floor of Lenexa City Hall. The town also has plans to open a farmers market this spring that will offer fresh local vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, flowers and baked goods. Residents can also take advantage of a rosy employment outlook, 33 parks, 26 miles of biking and hiking trails, and rotating art shows in the City Hall art gallery.
Lenexa came in at number 59 overall. Shawnee was the only other Kansas city to make the list, coming in at 70.
The rankings looked at cities with populations between 10,000 and 100,000 with low crime and average-or-above household income, and then compared data on their economies, education systems and housing, among other factors.
