On Monday, cities across northeast Johnson County will be swearing in new members of their governing bodies. In Fairway, that ceremony will take place in a brand new city hall.
In addition to the new council chambers, which are located in a spacious room with vaulted ceilings that once served as the meat locker when the building was a butcher shop in its early years…:
…the building also features a recreation and entertaining area. Fairway Parks and Recreation is already offering twice-weekly open gym sessions in that space for parents and young kids…:
The area can also be rented out for parties.
Upstairs is the mayor’s office as well as a conference room for committee meetings, which features the old Churchill building sign:
Many of the building materials and fixtures are recycled, including the granite countertops at the clerks’ windows that were part of the Churchill installations:
Fairway will hold an open house for the new city hall building Monday at 6:30 p.m. ahead of the council meeting and swearing in ceremony at 7:30 p.m. There will be a reception giving people an additional opportunity to check out the new city hall at the conclusion of Monday night’s meeting.
