Shawnee police looking for info on single-car crash on 75th Street that left woman dead


Shawnee police are asking for anyone with information about an early-morning crash at 75h Street and Westgate that left a woman dead to contact them. Police issued the following release on the crash this morning:

On Monday December 4th, 2017 at around 3:50 AM, Officers were dispatched to the area of 75th and Westgate to investigate a motor vehicle crash. On arrival, Officers found a single car with significant damage that crashed into a utility pole, then into a tree.

Officers searched the area and found a deceased female in the area of the crash who was ejected from the car.

The Shawnee Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash. We are working on notifying next of kin of the victim and will not release her identification until we do so.

In October, Shawnee police found a car in a drainage area off Shawnee Mission Parkway with a deceased man nearby. Last month, the announced they had determined the deceased man was a passenger in the vehicle, and that they were looking for a man who may have been the driver and fled the scene.

UPDATE: Shawnee police issued additional information on the crash this afternoon:

The deceased driver has been identified as Edwina Bates, 48 year old female from Kansas City, MO. She was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle involved in the crash.

This was a one vehicle crash in to a utility pole as well as a tree.
