Library breaks ground on new Lenexa City Center branch. Lenexa community leaders and Johnson County Library officials met Tuesday morning to mark the start of construction on the new Lenexa City City Library. Adjacent to the Lenexa Public Market and the new city hall, the new 40,000 square foot facility will be the new home of the current Lackman branch location. The county authorized the expenditure of $21,570,000 in project costs for the new library branch in spring 2016. The new branch is expected to open in mid-2019.

Harvesters hosting BackSnack packing event at Union Station Sunday. If you’re looking for an opportunity to volunteer this holiday season, Harvesters has an event on the books this coming Sunday that should be of interest. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the organization will be hosting eight 20-minute shifts for packing BackSnacks, child-friendly bags of food distributed to kids who live in food insecure households. There’s no need to sign up. The event will be held at Union Station.

SM East grad Kyle Ball nominated for “Piesman” award for long fumble return. SM East grad and K-State sophomore has been nominated for this year’s “Piesman Trophy,” an annual award given for the most outstanding play by a lineman. Ball’s recovery of a fumble and subsequent 55-yard run in the Wildcats win over Central Arkansas Sept. 2 earned him the nomination. You can vote for Ball here.
