Shawnee Mission Health opens new simulation lab and conference center. Shawnee Mission Health this week marked the completion of a $22 million renovation of the Shawnee Mission Medical Center’s first floor by celebrating the opening of the Zamierowski Simulation Center and Rodgers Conference Center. The new facilities provide modern space for the continuing education needs of physicians, nurses and other practitioners. The renovation project has been three years in the making.

Merriam fire department to conduct training exercises in Slater home. Merriam fire crews this morning will be conducting a series of training exercises on the site of the vacant home the city purchased near Varva Park earlier this year. So if you see a bunch of fire crews banging the door down, don’t panic.

Prairie Village’s “Touch a Truck” event coming tonight. Prairie Village Public Works this evening will host a “Touch a Truck” event in recognition of National Public Works Week. Anyone is welcome to come by the public works facility at 3535 Somerset between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. to see demonstrations of the city’s equipment — including a skid steer and a dump truck.
