In the days following President Donald Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey, Kansas Senators Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran both said they didn’t believe it was necessary to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the president and his campaign’s alleged ties to Russia. At the time, Roberts said the process of having a special prosecutor investigate the president would be “ineffective.”

On Wednesday, however, the Justice Department appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller to oversee an investigation into the matter as special counsel.

Was appointing Mueller to oversee an investigation into Trump and Russia the right move? Why or why not?
