Shawnee Mission elementary students to get experience working at Village Shops merchants Tuesday. You may notice that the help at some of the Village Shops merchants seems younger than usual today. Belinder Elementary sixth graders will be working in two shifts at 19 Village Shops merchants, part of the school’s Village Days program that gives youngsters a taste of the working world. The participating merchants are Bag & Baggage, Better Cheddar, Bijin Salon & Day Spa, Blue Moose, C. Frog’s, Cafe Provence, Einstein Bros., Euston Hardware, French Market, Goodcents, Hen House, The Little Gym, Macy’s, RSVP, Tavern in the Village, TCBY, Village Flower Company, UMB and US Bank. Prairie Elementary has a similar program.

Shawnee Mission North senior Harrison Boldt earns admission to Naval Academy. Shawnee Mission North class president Harrison Boldt is one of just 1,200 high school seniors across the country to earn admission to the U.S. Naval Academy. The academy receives around 40,000 applications each year. Boldt, who is a standout member of the SM North swimming team, receives a scholarship for his education worth $250,000. Roeland Park asks residents to consider moving vehicles from street to make way for sweepers. Roeland Park has directed its public works crews this week to run street sweepers in an effort to clean up debris knocked loose by this weekend’s high winds and storms. The city is asking residents to consider moving their vehicles off the street when possible to allow street sweepers to pass.
