Opinion writer, Shawnee Mission West grad Yael Abouhalkah to receive JCCC honor. Yael Abouhalkah, who wrote editorials for the Kansas City Star for more than three decades before launching his own site, Yael on the Trail, last fall, will be the recipient of this year’s JCCC journalism program honor. Faculty in the Journalism and Media Communications department choose a media professional for the recognition each year. Abouhalkah graduated from SM West in 1976.
