Bridging the Gap, Merriam Parks and Rec to host rain barrel workshop in Merriam. If you’re looking out the window this morning and pondering what you could be doing with all that rain, the city of Merriam and Bridging the Gap may have just the thing. The groups will host a rain barrel workshop from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29 at the Merriam Marketplace, 5740. The cost is $65 per person, and includes all the supplies needed to create a rain barrel, which can be used to store rain water for home landscaping and vegetable gardening irrigation. Pre-registration is required. To register, come in person to the Irene B. French Community Center or contact the city of Merriam. Merriam residents can also apply for a reimbursement grant for the program.

Johnson County Emergency Management postpones monthly siren test on account of rain. Johnson County Emergency Management announced this morning that it was postponing its monthly test of the outdoor warning siren system a week on account of the rain. The test, which typically takes place at 11 a.m. on the first Wednesday of the month, will now occur at 11 a.m. next Wednesday, April 12.
