Legs furry and otherwise will be darting around the neighborhood surrounding Shawnee Mission East next month as the Prairie Village Police Department’s Animal Control division puts on its first-ever Doggie Dash.

The 3K run/walk will take dog owners and their pets over a course that starts at Harmon Park in Prairie Village and winds its way west to Juniper and back on Saturday, May 6. The race will start at 8 a.m.

The event is free and open to anyone who wants to participate. Animal Control asks that anyone whose dog has behavior that is “questionable around other dogs and/or strangers” refrain participating, however. To register, call Animal Control at 913-385-4631. You can also register in person at the event.

Anyone who registers by April 22 will get a free gift bag. Police are arranging to have vendors serving refreshments at the finish line.
