The citizen’s group that’s organized to raise money for improvements to R Park in Roeland Park the past three years is preparing to put on a new event this month that should provide an attractive option to celebrate the onset of spring.
As part of their an efforts to raise $14,000 to contribute to the installation of a new $125,000 park shelter, the Citizens Fundraising Initiative for R Park is hosting a “Spring Wine Fling” from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Drive.
Organizer Gretchen Davis said the organizers and sponsoring businesses are paying the costs to produce the event themselves, which means that all of the proceeds will go directly to the park improvement funds.
“As you know, it’s a rare fundraiser when 100 percent of ticket costs go toward the project,” Davis said.
Five Kansas wineries — Aubrey Vineyards, Holy-Field Vineyard & Winery, Rowe Ridge Vineyard & Winery, White Tail Run Winery & Vineyard and Wyldewood Cellars Winery — will provide more than 30 different vintages to sample. Food and drink will be provided by Houlihan’s, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Sweet Ideas, with the Mission BP station providing water and soda. Attendees will get a wine glass courtesy of 3Cup Media.
Jeremy Martin’s Cello and Fellows will be playing live music throughout the evening.
Tickets are $35 ahead of the event or $40 at the door. You can purchase your tickets online here.
