Barbara Jane (Simpson) Comer, age 75, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City. She was born February 27, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri, a daughter of the late David A. and Millie Ruth (Hoyes) Simpson.
On August 7, 1959, in Kansas City, Missouri, she was united in marriage to her surviving husband, James W. Comer.
Barbara was a 1959 graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. She was a member of an Order of the Eastern Star Chapter in Kansas City. She and Jim resided in Overland Park, Kansas until 1993, when they moved to Versailles. Together, they enjoyed traveling and camping in their motorhome. Most of all, Barbara loved her grandchildren and treasured the moments she spent with them.
Barbara leaves her husband of fifty-seven years, James Comer; daughter, Shelley Burk and husband Phillip; daughter, Sherrey Young and husband Rick; grandchildren, Tiffany, Alex and Wade; brother, David Simpson and nephew, Brian Simpson.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, February 9th, at the Hopewell Cemetery with Reverend Danny Owsley officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Kindly omit flowers and donate to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice. The family requests those attending to dress casual with a splash of color.
