If you’d hoped to try to forget about the frosty winter weather by hitting the pool in the warm confines of the Roeland Park Aquatic Center dome over the break, we’ve got some bad news.

City parks and recreation officials announced Tuesday that they were forced to close the center until a new dome heater can be installed. The city says it hopes the new equipment will arrive the week of Jan. 16. They hope to be able to reopen the pool the week of Jan. 23. In the interim, all programming — including holiday swimming hours, classes and drop-in open swims — have been canceled.

The center is operated jointly by the city of Roeland Park and the Johnson County Park and Recreation District.
