Deffenbaugh Industries plans to collect its old trash and recycling carts in Prairie Village beginning the week of Dec. 26 as it exits the city following the selection of a new firm, Republic Services.

In a recent message to residents, a Deffenbaugh representative said that all trash and recycle carts should be removed from residences by Dec. 31. The firm will run its last regular collection schedule the week after Christmas.

Customers are asked to roll out their carts on the regular collection day that week, and then leave them for Deffenbaugh to pick up. If residents are away from home, the firm asks that carts be left out in their absence to avoid an additional charge for unrecovered carts.

Deffenbaugh invites people with questions to call the firm at 800-964-8988.

In the meantime, the 17,000 new carts to be used by Republic are being staged at the former Meadowbrook clubhouse parking lot. Those carts are expected to be delivered to homes beginning today, Thursday, through Dec. 23, although in the event of bad weather that schedule could be pushed back a few days. More detailed information about the transition can be found online.
