Yoder hosting Open House Monday to hear from constituents about issues facing Congress. Recently reelected U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder and his staff will be hosting a constituent Open House today from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at his district office, 7325 W. 79th Street in downtown Overland Park. Yoder’s office says he is looking forward “to visiting with constituents over coffee about the top issues facing Congress through the end of this year and beyond in 2017.” THe event is open to the public. RSVPs are not required, but the office recommends you make one by contacting Cate Duerst at cate.duerst@mail.house.gov or call (913) 621-0832.

Alex Gordon helps ring in the Christmas season at Mission Farms. Royals outfielder Alex Gordon and his family were the guests of honor at Thursday’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Mission Farms in Leawood. The event, which drew hundreds, featured performances by the Shawnee Mission South band and the SM East cheerleaders. Attendees brought piles of diapers and other toiletries to donate to SAFEHOME. Sylvester Powell Community Center “Burn Before the Turkey” event this Thanksgiving. The Sylvester Powell Center in Mission is inviting people this Thursday for a morning of exercise to get ready for an afternoon of eating. The goal is to burn as many pre-turkey calories as possible and raise non-perishable food items to help need families in Northeast Johnson County. Its free and open to the public if you bring three non-perishable food items. A Bootcamp Mix-up exercise session runs from 8-9 a.m. and a Iyengar Yoga class also goes from 8-9 a.m. People are encouraged to arrive 10-15 minutes early.
