Colin Grunhard comes from a family of athletes.
His dad, Tim, was a professional football player, his twin sister Cailey signed to swim at Notre Dame yesterday. She also competed at the Olympic Trials this past summer.
Sports are in Grunhard’s blood and while he’s currently undecided, he’ll continue his football career somewhere once he’s graduated from Bishop Miege.
School: Bishop Miege
Accomplishments: All-Simone Team (2015), All-State (2015), 1st Team EKL (2016, 2015), 2nd Team EKL (2014), EKL HM (2013) [/pullquote]
“Wherever I feel the most comfortable with,” Grunhard said of the factor that will help him make his decision. “I’m still working out a few things right now. I’m narrowing it down.”
The 6-foot-1, 270-pound center has helped the Stags to two-straight state titles as they seek a third this season.
Before making football the only sport he plays, he also swam as a freshman. He said he still loves it, but he didn’t have time for it.
“When we were kids it’s been emphasized to compete and participate in all sports,” Grunhard said. “As kids we played outside with our siblings and got better through the years and now we are where we are.”
But Grunhard isn’t just a football player. He enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time outside. He’s gone on two mission trips to West Virginia to build decks and wheelchair ramps.
Grunhard also excels in the classroom and that’s apparent as he could potentially walk-on to Notre Dame’s football team next fall. He also has an offer to play at Air Force.
He plans to major in a business-related field.
“Most likely the NFL is not the option for me,” Grunhard said. “I want to get a good degree and have a good job after that.”
