Westwood population is growing. Westwood city officials report the community now has 1,719 residents, according to the Census Bureau. That’s an increase of 213, or 14 percent over the 2010 population count of 1,506.

The Alvin Ailey Group danced message of diversity earlier this month in Northeast Johnson County. The Alvin Ailey Group, the nationally-renowned dance troupe based in Kansas City, danced at various Northeast Johnson County sites including the Hen House in Fairway and the Tavern restaurant in Prairie Village in early October to encourage diversity, KCUR public radio reported.

Shawnee Mission North hosting Engineering Fair next Wednesday. Students interested in engineering careers will be able to speak with professional engineers to gain a better understanding of what a future would look like in the STEM field at the SMSD Engineering Fair. The event will be held at 8 a.m. on Oct. 26 in the SM North Learning Commons, 7401 Johnson Drive.

Survey suggests jurors pleased with Johnson County judges. A 2016 survey of residents who have served on Johnson County juries finds strong support for the county’s judges. Full 96 percent of the 432 respondents gave “good” or “excellent” ratings to the judges in whose courtrooms they served in the categories of demeanor, fairness, courtesy and competence.
