Shawnee Mission East girls golf favored to win 6A state tournament, SM North’s Killeen qualifies

When the Class 6A girls state golf tournament gets underway on Monday at Country Club of Leawood, Shawnee Mission East will certainly be favored to bring home the title.

The 2015 state champions rolled through regionals four days ago at Deer Creek Golf Club taking six of the top seven spots including the first five.

Senior Jessica Parker shot a 7-over, 79 to lead the way for the Lady Lancers. Senior Riley Ricket and junior Marti Fromm each shot a 10-over, 82, but Ricket officially took second because she defeated Fromm in a playoff.

Senior Teagan Noblit, 83 (+11), and freshman Karoline Nelson, 87 (+15) rounded out the top five with senior Haley Bell, 94 (+22) coming in seventh.

The first groups will tee off at 8:30 a.m., but SM East will have the final six groups that tee off on hole No. 1. It will be paired with Garden City, Olathe Northwest and Washburn Rural.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association is supposed to update scores live during the day.

Shawnee Mission North sophomore Katlyn Killeen finished 10th at regionals shooting a 98 (+26) to earn a spot in the tournament. She’ll tee off at 10 a.m., on hole 10.
