When Claira Creach and Hannah Weber emerged from the locker room on Tuesday night their cheeks were a little damp and eyes red.
The Bishop Miege seniors were handed two losses on a night meant to honor them, falling to Gardner Edgerton 19-25, 22-25, and Blue Valley West 14-25, 14-25.
As much as they would have liked to have walked off the court victorious, winning on senior night isn’t the goal, but hoisting another state trophy.

“A lot of wins we felt we’re right on the cusp of have not gone our way,” Ludwig said. “We try to keep (sub-state and state) in the future as much as that is the ultimate goal, I think we get there by competing with (teams like Blue Valley West) and playing well against the EKL. I don’t think you can find a tougher league.”
If Bishop Miege were to reign at the end of the season, it will be the fourth state title for Creach and Weber.
