For the third year in a row, the Village Shops will be sporting a special hue for the month of October.

The shopping center and Shawnee Mission Health have partnered to hang pink lights outlining the shops’ buildings in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness month. On Thursday, Shawnee Mission Health executives joined a group of cancer survivors to flip the switch on the lights, outlining the shops in bright pink.

Shawnee Mission Health will also be lighting its Merriam medical campus buildings in pink for the month.

New this year, the health system will be hosting a contest for people who adorn their homes and businesses with pink lights as well. They’ll be awarding first, second and third prizes for the best decorated homes. People who want to be considered for the prizes should email photos of their decorations to LightTheTownPinkSMH@gmail.com.
