Behind a hat trick from senior Clayton Phillips, SM East beat Olathe South 4-0 in boys soccer Tuesday evening to improve to 7-0 on the season. The win sets up a showdown Thursday evening against Olathe Northwest, which is 7-1-1.

Phillips started the scoring with 14 minutes to play in the first half when junior Cooper McCullough sprung him open on a back heel assist. Phillips scored again one minute later off a cross from junior Sam Thompson.  Junior Tommy Nelson scored in the second half when senior Oliver Bihuniak headed a long throw in across the box. Phillips completed his hat trick with four minutes to play off an assist from Bihuniak.

Junior goalkeeper Collyn Lowry made several big saves and the Lancers’ solid defense held their opponent scoreless for the fifth time this season.

Thursday’s home game to keep pace with Olathe Northwest and Olathe East for control of the Sunlfower League is at 7 p.m. at the Shawnee Mission Soccer Complex.
