If SM East lost any confidence from its turnover-plagued loss to Rockhurst last week, it didn’t show it on Friday.
The Lancers ran and threw past traditional Sunflower League powerhouse Olathe North from the start of the the game and didn’t let up, charging their way to a 48-13 win.
SM East’s high-powered offense, which found itself hobbled by self-inflicted wounds last week, found itself operating smoothly against the Eagles. Quarterback Luke Kaiser and receiver Trevor Thompson’s chemistry continued as the pair connected for three touchdown passes. Kaiser finished the night going eight for eight on passing attempts, throwing for 201 yards — including an 80 yard bomb to Thompson. Running back Milton Braasch powered the ground game, running for 132 yards on eight carries, finding the endzone three times.
Here’s Gridiron Club videographer Brian Libeer’s recap of the big win:
Things didn’t go so well for the Lancers’ cross-town compatriots, however. SM North pushed Olathe Northwest to a 22-22 tie in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. But a 27-yard field goal by kicker David Boschma gave the Ravens the lead as time expired, handing SM North a loss. The Indians are now 2-2 on the season.
