The IHOP restaurant in Merriam will close its doors Sunday.
The restaurant has been on the corner of Shawnee Mission Parkway for decades. The current building was constructed in 1971, according to county records. The IHOP will close at 2 p.m. Sunday, staff said.
IHOP corporate did not return messages regarding the closing or future use of the building.
The IHOP, with its challenging sloped parking lot, is near the Kmart building that closed in 2013. The two properties, though, have different owners.
Menards had announced plans to building a new store on the Kmart property, but backed out at least partially because of geo-technical challenges that it discovered.
No new occupancy has been announced.
