The City of Merriam has launched a redesigned website that officials hope will be a more welcoming and useable virtual gateway to their community.

“One of the goals for the new website was to make it more approachable, more colorful and more inviting,” said Andy Graham, communications and public engagement manager for the city.

Graham made a presentation of the redesigned site at the regular meeting of the Merriam City Council. The redesign was done at no cost to the city as part of its agreement with the site designer, Civic Plus of Manhattan, KS.

The city hopes the new site will attract more visitors to its official website which contains a host of information for citizens including news events, meeting schedules and contact information for its departments.

Graham said that 135,000 people visited the previous website last year, averaging about 11,300 per month. It has about 800 followers on Facebook.

“Our traffic to the website isn’t huge and I’d like to grow that,” he told the council.
