A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Academy Bank branch in Fairway is scheduled for Sept. 21.

Academy Bank will formally celebrate the opening of its new prototype bank facility in Fairway on Sept 21.

The flagship full-service bank at 4400 Shawnee Mission Parkway marks a departure for the firm. Previously, its outlets have been located in Walmart Super Centers, said CEO Paul Holewinski.

“This is our first step with a more traditional retail banking center,” he said. “We’ll have new technology available that allows extended hours and drive throughs.”

Holewinski said Fairway was chosen for its new location because of its great demographics and the high visibility of the address.

“There’s a lot of redevelopment and its a growing area for small business clients,” he said.

The six-person staff will include mortgage and small business specialists. The bank has been open since May 23.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Northeast Johnson County Chamber of Commerce from 4:30- to 6:30 p.m. will be an opportunity for the public to tour the space and enjoy refreshments.
